our historyIt was late fall and my friend Nathaniel persuaded me to participate a local horse auction. There were all shapes and sizes for sale. I wasn't searching anything and so wasn't Nathaniel, but we were here just to see what this auction got to offer.
One beautiful stallion was sold for much more than it was obviously worth. And one gelding was way too under priced. I kind of felt bad for these people using so little or so much money for these creatures, when clearly they would've got them somewhere else for more suitable price. And then they walked this gorgeous black stallion with four socks to the platform and I was sold. And couple of minutes later, so was he. My friend laughed at me and wanted to know what would I do with this large pony. To be honest? I had no idea. |
about this stallionAberthol is one of my favourites in this stable. He's kind and gentle when working with humans. One of his specialities is his ability to open knots. So be extra careful when leaving him alone at the end of a tied rope.
While preparing him for a training, Aberthol can be a little pain in the ass. He will not stand still and always tries to find treats from those pockets. Carrots, pieces of bread, that kind of stuff. But when you find the sweet spot behind his ears, he can not help but wobble his upper lip. In front of carriages, this stallion always gives his best efforts. We believe he gets it from his father. Aberthol's paces are full of glamour and air. It sometimes seems like he's walking on clouds, smooth and seamless. |
pedigree
father's sideGRIFFITSH is pitch black stallion who gives everything, when it comes to competing and achieving. Strong minded stallion was born and raised in Wales. He can still be seen in front of carriages amusing kids in local events.
MABBET was dark bay stallion from England. He showed his talent many times in dressage. Beautiful paces and airy gallop caught many viewers attention. He had seven gorgeous foals and many of them inherited his movements. SIAWN was dark as night and as silent. This mare never called out to her fellow cobs or humans. Her nickname was Hush because of that. Se was quite shy and reserved in new places and in front of crowds. Neither of these qualities transferred to her offspring. |
mother's sideELLEY showed determination and loyalty from the day one. Bright red chestnut coat and big clear eyes full of trust and joy. That was the key to that mares success. In and out of arenas. This pony is agile and quick. She has tried her luck in show jumping, but true love was found in driving.
BEDWYR wasn't the best horse for driving or dressage. Bedwyr was clumsy and a bit slow. His paces was narrow and stiff. Even though masseur came to see him more than was necessary he's movements didn't improve. Owners decided to alter him and sell to the nearest riding school. LYN melted everyone's heart. Dark bay mare was steady and patient teacher to every novice in carriage driving. Quick little pony was also inventive and clever. She could make up pranks, like throwing brushes out of the case to the floor. |

TRYING OUT NEW THINGS - 28.11.2018
Today we took Aberthol to a Rate My Pony event. Our stallion was excited and couldn't keep himself still. Sally came with us and he left to calm the pony down while I went to sign him in for the evaluation. About 30 minutes later we were called up and Aberthol gave his best, like always. But according to the judges, it wasn't enough. He got 53% out of 100% from frame, 54% from movements, 53% from character and 49% from abilities. His behaving at the moment was great, at least we thought so. Over all he got 1008 points out of 1900.

WONDERING ABOUT THE FUTURE - 27.11.2018
I was watching Aberthol trotting around the paddock. He's almost achieved his goal in driving and I'm not sure he wants to retire just yet. He's so full of joy and energy. Well... His seven years old, so maybe retirement is a bit too soon. Also competing In-hand is one option. We haven't decided yet. And maybe we should train our stallion further and see what he thinks. Right now I know he's happy and enjoying his time. His throwing his head in the air and stomping the ground. I'm so proud of him, there's no words to describe.

GRAZING SEASON IS HERE ! - 15.07.2018
I watched two of my stallions galloping around the pasture. Huarwar was trying to keep up with Aberthol, who has slightly longer legs but faster paces. Their manes waved in the summer breeze. Soon the new competition season would start and we need to train these boys back to proper shape. Thank goodness they were eager to learn new stuff and perform in shows.
Suddenly Aberthol stopped and Huarwar was too busy shaking his head ending up almost colliding with another stallion. Aberthol showed his teeth ears pressed to his neck. Although it looked rough, I knew these two and this was all just a harmless play. Both of them are big and strong individuals, but they get along so well. Sometimes I like to think, they're like brothers.

HEY LOOK, IT'S SALLY - 20.11.2018
My old friend Sally offered to ride Aberthol. She's been considering of getting her first own cob and Aberthol might be a great father-candidate. At least according to her. From the moment she sat in the saddle she smiled and enjoyed riding him. Aberthol called out to his friends in the paddock next to the field. Huarwar was the closest and tried to challenge Aberthol to a race, but our Black Beauty stayed still and gave all of his attention to his rider. Good boy. That is exactly what we hoped from him from the day he was bought. Even though he's strong stallion, he's always under control.

LEARNING THE ROPES - 15.06.2018
I tried to calm down a big black stallion, who was restless and lifted his hooves one by one to air. This wasn't Aberthol's first time in front of carriages, but he was too energy and excited. Maybe I should've take him for a lap of two on a longe first. To weary him out. Or at least most of his energy. But there we were. Ready to go and my stallion didn't want to stay still anymore. So I gave him a permission to move ahead. I looked at the sky. Bright and blue. Just the way we liked it. Nothing could go wrong.

ISN'T HE CUTE AND SMALL AND CUTE - 12.02.2018 // WRITTEN BY THE BREEDER (evm)
Less than a month ago Aberthol was born. Proud mom and joyful foal. And now, almost five weeks later that little black fur ball is running and galloping around the paddock. Chestnut mare kept a close eye on her young one and whinnied to him. Foal responded and ears directed forward he trotted back to his mothers side. Elley bumped her son with her nose and encouraged him to make a new lap around the enclosure. Me and one of the stable employee watched the two of them having the times of their lives. This young stallion would be strong and co-operative. When he would be old enough, he's going to make someone very lucky owner.
